Difference between File Extension PPS & PPT

PPT and PPS are formats being implemented as signature data structures of projects generated by Microsoft PowerPoint. Both can be directly viewed through PowerPoint Viewer. Each file format is manifested differently even if both share a lot of similarities in terms of capabilities.

Icons of these PowerPoint output files are also slightly different despite a single MS Office application being authorized to generate these output files.

The 2 Data Structures Differ Widely

  • how the system recognizes each PowerPoint output file format;
  • how these modules are loaded; and
  • which applications are most suitable to be summoned by the system for each file upon execution.

PPS is loaded and executed for viewing purposes much faster than files in the PPT format. Files are typically created in this format to skip the loading time of PowerPoint and directly open the module as a slideshow. PPS files automatically load fullscreen as a show upon execution. It also proceeds to load its next slide, but this depends on its configuration, particularly whether it has been programmed to automatically continue to the upcoming slide or should the slide shift be activated by a press of a valid button.

File Extension PPT

PPT files are embedded with the original data structure of PowerPoint. The PPT file format is usually implemented for projects subject for modification or those still under construction. A PowerPoint output file in this structure will initially open Microsoft PowerPoint upon its execution. Afterwards, it will be manifested in the project as the current document. PPT files can also be blown fullscreen and displayed like PPS files since it performs the same PPS display and presentation capabilities. Moreover, PPT files are in the raw presentation format for projects.

PPS files have faster show loading time, but users will need to change its file format because it cannot be directly accessed by the application viewer for changes. This means it was specifically developed only for viewing purposes.

The PPT file format has a longer loading time for shows, but it is capable of receiving modifications for the entire project presentation. This data structure is used for projects that need direct enhancements. Any editing made to these files is instantly displayed.
